Danielle Ray had a very close relationship with her father.
“He was my best friend. He was, and always will be, my best friend.”
Danielle Ray was extremely close to her father, Johnny.
“We used to say that we were each other’s twins, we literally had the same mentality.”
“And we were very, very close. Therefore, it is very difficult without him.”
As Danielle, or Dan as her father knows her, approaches her 30th birthday, she is sad to know that she will reach one of the milestones of her life without him.
She was just 25 years old when Johnny died after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. Johnny was 63 years old.
Early diagnosis, the key
Having lost his father to a disease that, if detected in time, could be cured, was difficult to accept.

The CDC in the United States recommends men between the ages of 55 and 69 see a doctor to see if they need a routine test.
“His diagnosis was a surprise. But now that I realized it, he had shown symptoms.”
“But almost out of the blue he was referred (to another specialist), when the symptoms worsened and he was diagnosed in October 2015.”
“Maybe it started two years ago, but you never think it will happen to you, or it will affect your family.”
Johnny He died two years after his diagnosis.
