The FIFA World Cup is still a few months away. We are used to the action taking place in the summer, but things are a bit different this year. After Qatar was controversially chosen to host the event, the organisers had to admit that it would be too hot to make a summer event playable. Therefore, the action has had to be delayed until the winter. Even then, the stadiums are being constructed with outdoor air-conditioning to keep players and fans cool.
Will the Polish team be able to keep their cool and battle their way out of Group C? Can they then get beyond the final 16 and into the knockout stages? They have never won the Championship, but they have done well in the past. In 1974 and 1982 they came third. Those halcyon days were a long time ago. Can the current squad do as well or even better?
Against The Odds
Polish fans will be keeping an eye on the changing odds and possibly having a flutter on their team. There are plenty of sports betting options, both on and offline. Those who cannot wait for the action to start can always try out some other games at the Polish online casinos. It is possible to bet on all sorts of outcomes other than just who the outright winners will be. For example, it is also possible to place a bet on who will make it out of the group stages. This has to be Poland’s priority, and it might be tough going.
Getting Our of Group C
Poland is drawn in Group C and will face Argentina, Saudi Arabia and Mexico. Two times winners Argentina are amongst the favourites to win the title again. With odds of 7/1, they are tied as third favourites with England. Only France and Brazil are more favoured than the Argentinian squad. A betting person would almost certainly favour the men in pale blue to beat the Polish side but defeating them is not impossible. Poland have beaten Argentina in both international friendly and world cup matches before. The last time they met was in 2011, and the European side were the victors with a final score line of 2-1.
Saudi Arabia should prove to be easier opponents. They have won through to the FIFA World Cup Finals on five previous occasions but have only made it out of the group stages once. They were then immediately despatched by Sweden, who beat them 3-1 in Dallas. So the chances are that Poland should be able to win their match against the Arabians – even if they are more accustomed to the fierce heat. Even in winter, temperatures are expected to be in the high twenties Celsius.
Mexico are not going to be a walkover either. They have a higher official ranking than the Poles and have only lost one match in 2022. OF the twelve played, they have won six, drawn five and lost one. They lost to Uruguay, another highly rated team. If Poland can defeat Mexico, their chances of getting out of the group are excellent. This will be the first match they play in. Even the bookies cannot call this one with virtually even odds for a win or draw for either side.
The Last 16
If Poland can win the group or come second, they will face a playoff against a team from Group D. There are some mighty names in that group, including France and Denmark. France are the current champions and outright favourites to win in 2022. This means that the assumption is that they will win their group. It is also assumed that Poland will probably be the runners up in Group C. If that is the case, they will be up against France in the Last 16. Beating the favourites would appear to be a pretty daunting task for the Polish squad.
