In the video, already watched by nearly a million people, the young woman enters “Google Ads Settings” and logs in. Then you scroll down and see a list that stores your age, gender, and languages that you speak, as well as things that might interest you, such as “architecture” and “audio equipment.”
When reviewing their private data, many users are surprised by the “amount of information” that Google knows about them, or at how “terrifyingly accurate” it is. One comment reads “That’s why I disable all of these things.”
Others claim that the information, in their case, is far from correct. “Why are you saying that I am over 44? I am literally 19.”
According to the company, this information is stored to personalize ads based on the “personal information you have added to your Google account”, the data of the associated advertisers, and the “user interests identified by Google.”
If you are not satisfied with this data collection, you can always choose to disable ads personalization on the same settings page.
