Honda begins production of Civic hatchback in USA, details and photos
Indiana Auto Plant Today Celebrating the Beginning of Production of the New Civic Hatchback 2022 at the Greensburg plant. Japanese firm Honda has manufactured Civic models in North America since 1986.This is the first time the Civic hatchback has been manufactured in the United States.
The $50.2 million investment in IAP helped prepare the facilities for mass production of the new version of the Civic. That investment includes building expansion for the Civic hatchback roof laser welding technology. Other new processes include a significant increase in the use of high-performance structural adhesives to improve body stiffness and the use of acoustic spray foam in the Civic’s body structure for the first time to improve cabin silence.
The Indiana Auto Plant is one of only two Honda plants globally currently producing the new 2022 Civic hatchback. Honda’s partners in Indiana used their more than a decade of experience with Civic production to tackle several new challenges to build the new 2022 Civic hatchback.
The Indiana Auto Plant began operations in October 2008 and is one of five Honda auto plants in the US. and one of the top 12 Honda manufacturing facilities operating in the United States.
With 2,700 employees, IAP has the capacity to produce 250,000 Honda cars and trucks annually using parts sourced nationally and globally.. The Honda CR-V makes up Honda’s best-selling US model along with the IAP Insight hybrid sedan. Indiana Auto Plant Has Produced Over Two Million Vehicles During the Last 12 Years, with a total capital investment of $1.2 billion in a 2.4 million square foot facility in Greensburg, Indiana.
