JOSHUA Garcia and Julia Barretto level up their acting craft as they return to the big screen for Star Cinema’s romantic-comedy, “Love You to the Stars and Back”.
The young stars, who met with their fans in Iloilo over the weekend, are both excited to let their fans and cinema-goers see how they evolve as actors.
“I was very excited to try a different character, take a different story and concept. Our movie is very risky in many ways,” said Barretto, “But the positive feedback we are getting is overwhelming.”
Written and directed by Antoinette Jadaone, who is known for the blockbuster “That Thing Called Tadhana”, the movie is the second team up of Garcia and Julia after their “Vince and Kath and James” shown in the Metro Manila Film Festival in 2016.
“Love You to the Stars and Back”, which Barretto described as “feel-good” movie, is about an eccentric and socially awkward girl, Mika (Barretto), who decides to go on a road trip with a very strange goal – to look for aliens.
In her trip, Mika accidentally bumps into a simple and good-humored boy, Caloy (Garcia), whom she chooses to give a free ride to until he reaches his destination.
Mika and Caloy get to know each other as the two embark on a road trip filled with adventures and misadventures. In the process, the two unexpectedly teach each other an important lesson on love and life – one that takes most people a lifetime to learn.
Garcia and Barretto are the two of the most talented and most sought after young artists in ABS-CBN today. Their debut projects as a love team, Vince and Kath and James was graded A by the Cinema Evaluation Board of the Philippines and it broke box-office records in last year’s MMFF.
Joshua’s acting career propelled when he became part of the powerhouse cast of the afternoon series “The Greatest Love”, and was nominated for the MMFF 2016 Best Actor Award.
Barretto, on the other hand, is making waves as part of A Love to Last series.
Love You to the Stars and Back also features Cherry Pie Picache, Carmina Villaroel, Ariel Rivera, Maricar Reyes-Poon, Edgar Allan Guzman, Joaquin Reyes, Eda Nolan, and Belle Mariano.
Love You to the Stars and Back is showing in cinemas on Aug. 30, 2017.
