How do you overcome the loss?
– Laziness left by the pandemic –
by. LIC. Gabriel Del Angel
If your intention is to do something different, something you already know will improve your life completely, but in the moment you take action, in the end you don’t, and again you see frustration and frustration because you have been overcome again by laziness or laziness that does not allow you to Do it right and leave it “for tomorrow”. I want you to know that what happens to you in a certain way is normal, the reason is that your body is so gentle, you enjoy rest and comfort a lot, just think of the effort you have to make when you suggest doing that physical exercise, you body is resisting because it is more comfortable not to do any Effort, this is because your brain is looking for immediate pleasure, seeking the immediate reward and not what will give you a long-term benefit. Incorporating new habits into your routine takes a lot of effort, and oftentimes you leave them for later or “for tomorrow.”
The crisis of the Covid-19 epidemic is a clear example of how your brain initially had a hard time getting used to the “new normal”, because as we said at the time when this health emergency started 1 year and 8 months ago, the isolation was for the situation Social and sudden change of habits affected the psycho-emotional state of people, so that the damage caused was greater in the population due to this “method” imposed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the governments of every country of the world from the same epidemic. Today, it is assumed that you already have control On the epidemic, but going back to your old habits, the effort to do that is so great, I give you an example: Going back to face-to-face lessons is a pretty big effort to make it happen. Other than the fear of massive contagion (which hasn’t happened in two months, some students and teachers are back in classes face to face), it is convenient and economical to take your class from home via the Internet, even in pajamas, you can do this, because the brain has already easily adapted to the immediate comfort or pleasure I mention above, instead of returning to the above means the n Get up early the next day, shower and get ready, go to school and it’s more expensive on your pocket. The same thing happens with your work activity, returning to the work day in person has lowered productivity, since returning to “normal life” at work definitely had a hard time adjusting to your mind.
Going back to your previous routine requires a lot of effort, it is necessary to reintegrate new habits, although I warn you that your brain will always give you arguments to postpone it, it can also give you logical arguments not to do it and thus save energy.
Today I want to show you how you can “trick” your mind, overcome laziness and stop putting off what you need to do. One of the most effective ways to bring about big changes in your life is to make small, important, but hard-to-notice adjustments in your daily routine. Small actions in your routine that won’t take long, with only 2 minutes out of your day, but do them day in and day out (including Saturday and Sunday), over time you will achieve great results, this 1% daily improvement is key, so the recommendations are:
1.- Start by mastering the first two minutes of the new behavior until it becomes automatic, then gradually add more complexity to your new habits.
2.- You need to decide where, how and when you will do it, I will give you an example: I will do this (action) at (time) in a certain (place).
3.- The other way is to automatically associate your new habit with another habit you already have, for example: after / before (current habit) I will (new habit).
Determining precisely each action you will take activates the reward circuits in your brain, prompting you to take action.
Another method you can use to combat laziness is to trick your brain into thinking that this new habit you want to incorporate into your daily routine is an instant reward, that way you will think it is worth investing all that energy and will support you in what you want to do, so you just have to make it” Attractive,” one of the most effective ways to get your brain into action is that it releases dopamine, because your brain is always looking for those “peaks” of dopamine, and they are not only released in your body when you feel pleasure, but also when you expect it. How can you use this to your advantage? You can simply associate this new habit that you want to incorporate, with a new reward that you will give yourself when you are done with this new action. As a human being, you have the highest levels of motivation, when you perform tasks that feel challenging and are within your capabilities, for example, when you have to put together a puzzle for the first time, when you feel focused on that activity, the brain is in flux, because it is connected, stimulated and rewarded . This is why a flow state is key to keeping you motivated and rewarding in the long run.
