WV campus journalists to converge for PIA-6 training

OVER 300 student journalists from all over Western Visayas will gather in Iloilo City for the 2018 Campus Journalism Seminar-Workshop organized by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-6.

Jaime S. Cabag Jr., PIA-6 OIC-regional head, said over 60 student publications from different higher education institutions in the region will take part in this year’s seminar-workshop slated August 22-24, 2018 at the Mansion Hotel, General Luna St., Iloilo City.

“This activity is conducted annually to provide student writers with basic skills and perspectives, and develop in them the appreciation for development communication,” he said.

He added that the training endorsed by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED)-6 will include modules on development communication, news and feature writing, opinion articles, sports writing, journalistic writing in Filipino, online journalism and newsletter production, copy reading and headlining, photojournalism, and page design and lay-out.

This year, PIA-6 has also included special topics such as adolescence and mental health and a talk on the programs and services of the Social Security System (SSS) geared towards future members.

PIA-6 will also hold training for student writers in high school publications on the following schedules: September 5-7, 2018 for Aklan, Antique and Capiz; and September 12-14 for Iloilo, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental. (JBG/LTP/PIA-Iloilo)
