Tulong sa Bayan launched in Capiz

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Capiceños can avail of quality and affordable commercial and government rice in the markets.

National Food Authority (NFA) Officer-In-Charge Jose Pacificador Jr. said that the public can now buy local god quality well-milled rice in the public market in the different towns and city here through the NFA Service Outlets at P38.00 per kilogram.

“We are launching the Tulong sa Bayan program in the different towns and city markets here to address the soaring price of commercial rice,” said Pacificador, adding that each consumer is only allowed, however, to buy three kilos per day.

The Tulong sa Bayan, which is a joint project of the Office of the President, Grains Retailers Confederation of the Philippines (GRECON), Philippine Confederation of Grains Associations (PhilConGrains) and National Food Authority, was launched at Teodoro Arcenas Trade Center in Roxas City, May 3, with NFA and GRECON top officials.

Among those present were GRECON National President Jaime Magbanua, NFA Regional Director Angel Imperial Jr., NFA provincial managers from the different provinces in Western Visayas and representatives from the different national government agencies and private groups.

Pacificador said that they are expecting the arrival of 250,000 metric tons of imported rice either by end of May or first week of June.

On the other hand, GRECON National President Magbanua said that they will only be selling rice at P38.00 per kilogram instead of P39.00 per kilogram as part of the grains retailer’s social responsibility amidst this rice crisis.

“This is a sacrifice on our part but we will do it because we also care for our fellow Filipinos,” he said. (PIA-Capiz)
