THE annual regional Search for Best Performing Information Officers for 2017 initiated by the Philippine Information Agency-6 is now going on.
The search aims to recognize the information officers designated in the national government agencies and the local government units and are affiliated with any of the information associations or groups with working linkages with the PIA Regional and Provincial Offices.
PIA-6 Regional Director Janet Mesa said those performing information and education work in agencies and LGUs are valuable agents in government information.
“Government information work has contributed much to the success of programs and projects, hence Information Officers doing their best should be recognized,” Mesa said.
Qualified for the award are those designated as Information Officers in agencies or LGUs and actually doing IEC tasks, members of the different PIA provincial info groups, and had served as IOs for the last two years.
The IOs must be nominated by the head of office or any individual or group and the supporting documents, to include 1) brief autobiographical sketch of the nominee, highlighting his/her life as IO for the last two years; 2) a profile of the nominee to include academic background, major related accomplishments for the last two years, IEC activities, community involvement that has bearing on IO work, and citations and awards received related to IO work.
The nominee must also submit a documentation of two impact projects that should detail specific beneficiaries, mechanics of implementation, specific involvement of the IO, accomplishments and impacts per objective and testimonials from partners and recipients.
The PIA has set the deadline for submission on November 3, 2017.
In less than a decade of the project, it has already produced “Hall of Famers” Information Officers, who were awardees for three consecutive years, including Juvy Gaton and James Earl Ogatis of DA-6; Ma. Xenia Serio of POPCOM before; PO3 Nida Gregas, Aklan PPO, Joeffrey Espiritu, PHO-Capiz; Esperidion Pelaez, PDRRMO-Capiz; Ma. Alicia Soledad Salazar, DOST-6; FO3 Marlon Garbo, BFP-Capiz; SPO1 Donna Asmod, Capiz PPO; and Salvacion Villasis, ASU-Banga, Aklan.
The PIA has also given special citations to those IOs before who are now in various positions or have retired but never had the chance to be awarded for their exemplary performance during their stint, like DOT-6 Director Helen Catalbas, who was among the pioneer presidents of the Association of Government Public Information Officers; Ruby Melliza of DTI-6; Cleofe Villanueva of Bago, City Negros Occidental, Marlin Sanogal of the Negros Occidental Provincial Planning and Development Office, Nereo Lujan of Iloilo Provincial Government and Vivian Tan of the DPWH-6.
