THE Remedios E. Vilches-San Lorenzo National High School (NHS) outshined other 17 schools in the 2018 Guimaras Statistics Quiz provincial elimination round, held at the Provincial Covered Gym, San Miguel, Jordan on Sept 4, 2018.
San Lorenzo NHS emerged as the winner in the competition represented by Iryn Joie A. Gadot, Allyzza Kaye G.
Quezon, and Rachelle G. Sauquillo, who dominated the final round of the contest.
Simeon J. Jabasa and Supang NHS followed which garnered the second and third place, respectively.
Gadot, Quezon, and Sauquillo were coached by Ms. Janet J. Padernal, Teacher III.
All participating junior high school students of each school and their coaches were given a certificate of participation while students who topped in the contest received a cash prize of Php1,000.00 each with a certificate of commendation.
Likewise, the second and third placers received the same certificates with cash prizes of Php700.00 and Php500.00 each, correspondingly.
The top 2 winners will represent Guimaras in the Regional Statistics Quiz contest in October in support to the 29th National Statistics Month celebration with the theme, “Exploring Philippine Wonders in Numbers: Statistics Towards Sustainable Tourism Development.”
The contest was spearheaded by the Provincial Government of Guimaras through its Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO) and the Department of Education Schools Division of Guimaras in partnership with the Provincial Statistics Committee(PSC)-Guimaras.
The activity aimed to develop appreciation among students on the importance and value of statistics towards sustainable development and to explore and discover their skills in statistics and its application in other fields of interest.
Contest judges were Dr. Rex C. Casiple, chief supervising specialist, Commission on Higher Education (CHED)-6; Dr. Jonny B. Pornel, Professor, UP Visayas and President of the Philippine Statistical Association, Inc., Region VI Chapter; and Ms. Marlene Y. Alviar, SOCD Chief, Philippine Statistics Authority, Regional Statistical Services Office VI represented by Mr. Roel Jude Bagaforo, Statistical Analyst.
Moreover, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member and also Chairperson of the Committee on Education and Culture, Josefina G. de la Cruz supported the event and gave a welcome message to everyone emphasizing the importance of statistics in the growth of society and acknowledging the efforts of all agencies who genuinely prepared the event and the active participation ofthe18 secondary schools in Guimaras.
“Your statistical skills will be used in today’s undertakings,” de la Cruz said in her message.
Meanwhile, the PSC-Guimaras Chairperson, Nelida B. Losare was represented by Antonio F. Tulio Jr, who delivered the closing remarks expressing gratitude to all those who made the event possible.
