The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) embarks on another important statistical undertaking that will involve the inventory of aquaculture farms in the agriculture sector of the Philippine economy.
Dubbed the 2017 Updating of List of Aquaculture Farms (ULAF), the activity will basically collects data and information about the updates of aquaculture farms and their farm operators in the Province of Guimaras.
Likewise, it will list all new and additional aquaculture farms in the province. The activity aims to generate sampling frame for quarterly surveys on aquaculture.
Information to be gathered includes culture system, management system, area and/or volume of aquaculture farm, cultured species and location of the aquaculture farm.
The data collected will be used for the continuous development of agricultural-based sampling frame. The frames are regularly updated in order to keep up with the fast – changing fisheries activities in the country.
The conduct of the 2017 ULAF started on Oct 2, 2017 and expected to last until Nov 29 of the current year.
All the five (5) municipalities were considered as sample Primary Sampling Units (PSUs) and will be covered in the updating/listing of aquaculture farms operation.
Thus all aquaculture farms in the province will be visited and interviewed and new/additional aquaculture farms will be listed. The PSA is currently doing a comprehensive effort to improve agriculture statistics data systems in the country.
PSA-Guimaras appeals for the support of aquaculture farm operators and caretakers to give truthful and complete information to our trained enumerators and should be fully aware that reliable data could help formulate concrete plans and programs that are responsive to the needs of the people.
The information provided to the PSA will be treated highly confidential.
