BACOLOD City – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) conducted orientation-trainings for newly-elected officials of the city’s 61 barangays (villages) on Tuesday at Resorts Negrense here.
The first batch of participants for the three-day training on August 28 to 30 are officials from 20 villages.
These include those of barangays 19, 20, 23, 26, 33, Alangilan, Alijis, Cabug, Felisa, Estefania, Granada, Handumanan, Montevista, Mansilingan, Pahanocoy, Punta Taytay, Singcang-Airport, Sum-ag, Tangub, and Villamonte.
DILG-Bacolod director Ma. Joy Maredith Madayag said they are implementing capacity development programs for barangay officials through the Local Government Academy.
She added that after the training, the participants are expected to come up with barangay agenda for governance and development, monitoring, and evaluation.
The “Barangay Newly-Elected Officials for Grassroots Renewal and Empowerment for Accountable and Transparent Barangays Program” is a comprehensive, term-based capacity development program that focuses on barangay officials elected during the May 14 elections.
Officials from the 21 barangays will form the second batch, who will attend the training September 4 to 6.
The final batch of trainees on September 11 to 13 will come from 20 more remaining barangays.
The program aims to meet the challenges of reinvigorating the political and administrative leadership at the community and barangay level, and to prepare them in actively fulfilling their roles and their relevance to development.
Through the orientation, elected barangay officials are expected to gain an appreciation and show improvements in their personal, managerial and leadership skills to perform their mandated tasks and responsibilities. (PNA)
