THE National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA)-6 regional office, in coordination with the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), spearheaded the first meeting for the formulation of the Boracay Comprehensive Ecosystem Rehabilitation and Recovery Program (CERRP) on May 3, 2018 at the Jalaur Conference Room of NEDA-6 office in Iloilo City.
As Vice Chairperson of the Rehabilitation and Recovery Committee of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC), NEDA-6 facilitated the gathering of key regional agencies in the region to discuss the data needed to determine the extent of the problem that has led to the temporary closure of Boracay, including the initial list of proposed programs, projects and activities (PPAs) that will require funding requirements for rehabilitation work in the coming years.
There are four proposed thematic areas where issues besetting Boracay and project interventions will be classified:
1) Enforcement of Laws and Regulations;
2) Pollution Control and Prevention;
3) Rehabilitation and Recovery of Ecosystems; and
4) Sustainability of Island Activities.
Some 30 participants attended the meeting, including Regional Directors and representatives of OCD, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Public Works and Highways, Philippine Ports Authority, National Commission on Indigenous Peoples, Department of Health, among others.
