TWO national high schools in the province of Guimaras will compete with schools from five other provinces of Western Visayas in the Regional Statistics Quiz contest in October 2018.
The two schools are San Lorenzo National High School (SLNHS) and Simeon J. Jabasa National High School.
SLNHS topped the 2018 Guimaras Statistics Quiz provincial elimination round which was participated in by 18 schools on September 4 at the Provincial Covered Gym in San Miguel, Jordan.
The SLNHS team composed of Iryn Joie A. Gadot, Allyzza Kaye G. Quezon, and Rachelle G. Sauquillo dominated the final round of the contest. They were coached by Teacher Janet J. Padernal, Teacher III.
As second placer, Simeon J. Jabasa National High School will join SLNHS in the regional competition as part of the activities in support to the 29th National Statistics Month celebration carrying the theme, “Exploring Philippine Wonders in Numbers: Statistics Towards Sustainable Tourism Development.”
All the participating junior high school students of each school and their coaches were given a certificate of participation while students who won first place in the contest received a cash prize of Php1, 000.00 each with a certificate of commendation.
On the other hand, the second and third placers received the same certificates with cash prizes of Php700.00 and Php500.00 each.
Philippine Statistics Authority Guimaras Chief Statistical Specialist Nelida B. Losare said the Provincial Government of Guimaras through its Provincial Planning and Development Office and the Department of Education Schools Division of Guimaras in partnership with the Provincial Statistics Committee-Guimaras spearheaded the contest aimed at developing the appreciation among students of the importance and value of statistics towards sustainable development as well as exploring and discovering their skills in statistics and its application in other fields of interest.(JBG/laf/PIA6-Iloilo)
