ROXAS City – Nineteen barangays of Dumarao are set to conduct blood donation drive to sustain the town’s year-round supply of blood.
Mayor Amado Eriberto Castro said 19 barangays in his town will conduct blood donation activity with the help of the Municipal Health Office led by Dr. Ana Mae Belasoto.
“There are barangays that are already scheduled for a blood donation activity monthly so that supply of blood will be sustained for the whole year,” he said.
Dumalag was the champion in the annual Blood Olympics program in 2015 and 2016 of the Department of Health and Philippine Red Cross after it reached more than two percent of its blood collection target based on its total population.
Castro attributed the successful blood donation program to massive information and education campaign.
“We are also planning to shell out funds as incentives for barangays that have also sustained the program for the year,” he said.
LGU Dumalag was a recipient of Provincial Sandugo Awards and Blood Olympics awarded for ranking first in the list of Capiz LGUs with highest blood collection. It received P50,000 incentives from DOH.
PRC-Capiz records show that from January to August 10, 2017, seven towns in Capiz reached one percent of its blood collection target. (PIA/Capiz)
