ILOILO City –A total of 600 seedlings of various trees such as mahogany and narra were planted by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-6 at the Agony Hill in Sitio Taban, Brgy. Manguining in Alimodian, Iloilo, in celebration of the “Piyesta sa Kakahuyan 2018.”
More than 100 personnel from the DPWH, Regional Office along with Iloilo First, Iloilo Second, Iloilo Fourth and Iloilo City District Engineering Officesparticipated in the said tree planting activity spearheaded by the Province of Iloilo thru the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO).
Said activity, which was also participated by other National Government Agencies (NGAs), Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), Local Government Units (LGUs), academe, members of the local media, and concerned stakeholders planted a total of 10,000 trees, which aimed to rehabilitate Agony Hill, which is considered as one of the tourist destinations in Central Iloilo, especially during Lent Season.
The volunteers hiked an almost 1.5-kilometer distance up the hill as an answer to the call for greener environment and a way to protect the Mother Nature.
Said tree planting activity was also held to support the Government’s campaign against global warming and promote awareness on the importance of trees and their effects to the environment. ( DPWH-6)
