THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) together with the Philippine National Police (PNP) conducted a learning event for Police Environmental Desk Officers (PEDO) as partners for environmental protection and rules implementation.

PEDOs are tapped to help the DENR to protect the environment and advance the right of the people to a balanced and healthful ecology in accord with the rhythm and harmony of nature.

The learning event discussed the salient provisions of the following environmental laws: Forestry Laws, Rules and Regulations; Biodiversity and Wildlife Laws, Rules and Regulations; Environmental Laws, Rules and Regulation; and Mining Laws.

It was divided into three (3) batches. The first batch –composed of PNP employees from Aklan, Antique and Capiz, and the second batch –composed of Iloilo and Guimaras, while the last batch was from the Negros Occidental.

In educating members of the PNP about environmental laws and regulations, the learning event had pushed for intensified forest protection campaign which is one of Secretary Cimatu’s ten priority programs. (DENR-6)
