THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Region 6 along with 100 employees joined the One Million Trees in One Day: One in One Project of the Capiz Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (CaPENRO) in Capiz last June 25, 2018.
The participants included Capiz PENR Officer Bernabe H. Garnace, Community ENR Officer Armin A. Halili of CENRO Mambusao, Tapaz Municipal ENRO, 61st Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, Philippine National Police Tapaz, Integrated Social Forestry People’s Organization (PO) Members and Roxas Elementary School and Candelaria National High School.
The group was able to plant 9,600 acacia mangium seedlings on nine hectares of land in Brgy. Roxas 8, Tapaz.
Other employees of the agency were assigned to other planting sites along with 93 organizations from different agencies, academe, private sectors and residents of the 16 municipalities and city of Capiz.
“Arbor Day Celebration is a simple event that reminds us that we should not forget to take good care of our only home. The collaboration of the various sectors in this one-day activity clearly shows that if we work together, we will be able to make a big difference in our own little way. The seedlings that we have planted are not only for our own benefit but this is for the next generations to come,” said DENR-6 Regional Director Jim O Sampulna.
CaPENRO is still consolidating the final number of seedlings planted and the area covered in the different planting sites.
The Arbor Day 2018 Celebration is held every June 25th of the year pursuant to Republic Act 10176 known as “An Act Reviving the Observance of Arbor Day by Authorizing the Local Government Units the responsibilities for Celebrating the Day for Tree Planting as an Annual Event”.
The law mandates all provinces, cities, and municipalities with their component barangays to revive the implementation of Arbor Day or Tree Planting Day. (DENR-6)
