DENR-6 hosts 1st PO regional summit

THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Region 6 will be gathering hundreds of Peoples’ Organizations (PO) all over Western Visayas for a one-day summit called PO Regional Summit on September 13, 2018 at Diversion 21 Hotel in Mandurriao, Iloilo City.

This is the first PO Summit that will gather all the POs in WV involved in the different projects of DENR such as the National Greening Program (NGP), Forestland Management Project (FMP), Community Based Forest Management (CBFM), Protected Areas (PA) Project Implementation in relation to NIPAS, Coastal and Marine Ecosystems Management Program (CMEMP) and other special projects.

“POsserve as major partners in the implementation of the different programs/projects of the agency. Without them, we will not be able to achieve the agency’s mandates in providing the Filipinos a cleaner, greener and livable environment,” said Regional Director Jim O Sampulna.

With the theme: “Peoples’ Organization: Environmental Synergy amidst project diversity; linking people to market opportunities”, the summit will provide wide array of Investment and Marketing strategies that suits the projects implementations and Livelihood programs for Sustainable Forest Management of respective POs.

A showcase of the major accomplishments outputs/products of the POs as impact of DENR projects will also be expected during the summit through a timely marketing, investment and symposia.

“The Summit is also one of the approaches of the agency in order to enhance the relationship of the government and the public. Moreover, this will properly address and meet the issues and challenges of the POs for sustainable development within the communities,” added Director Sampulna.

On the same day, the launching of the “Tayo ang Kalikasan” (TAK) for Visayas Cluster: A Program for Restoration, Rehabilitation and Development under the Office of DENR Secretary Roy ACimatu will also take place.

TAK is a movement envisioned to be a collaborative effort between the government and its citizens toward the protection of the country’s natural resources./DENR 6
