THE PROVINCE of Guimaras gave recognition to a centenarian from Barangay La Paz, Nueva Valencia after the flag ceremony of the Provincial Government of Guimaras (PGG) employees and officials recently.
Avelina Geraldoy, 100, said vegetable and relaxation are her secrets to longevity.
“Utan ang sekreto ko kung ngaa nag lawig ako sang amu sini, kag wala ako naga ugtas gid pirme,” shared Avelina Geraldoy.
Geraldoy received a cheque for P10,000 and a certificate of recognition from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO).
Geraldoy was born in year 1916 and turned 100 years old on October 29, 2016.
Under Republic Act 10868, all Filipinos who will turn 100 in the current fiscal year will be awarded with a plaque of recognition and a cash incentive by their respective city or municipal governments as part of the annual Elderly Filipino Week.
The plaque of recognition and cheque were presented by Provincial Administrator, Alejandro Araneta, SP Member, Josefina Dela Cruz and PSWD Officer Shirly Gabutin.
The program for Senior Citizens is an initiative of Governor Samuel T. Gumarin to show concern and care to the elderly, especially those reached the age of 100.
