To improve community disaster preparedness and awareness through Kahublagan sa Barangay para sa Lapnagon nga Kahandaan sa Kalamidad (KABALAKA) Program, the Iloilo City Government through the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) will conduct a series of First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) Trainings.
The initiative targets identified barangays which are prone to vehicular accidents.
“Education in Basic Life Support and First Aid is very important for the community. The public should know what to do during emergency situations. We must all prepare for disasters and accidents that might cause death and loss of properties,” Mayor Jose Espinosa III said.
The training will be participated by barangay tanods, Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (BDRRMC) members, health workers, and youth sector representatives.
The first batch of participants will be from Ungka, Buhang, Lanit, Tacas, Bito-on, Tabuc Suba, Dungon A, Dungon B in Jaro District; and Sto. Domingo, Dulonan, Mohon, Sooc, Yulo Drive in Arevalo on May 3 to 4.
The training for the second batch from San Rafael, Q. Abeto Hibao-an Sur, Hibao-an Norte, Calahunan, Tabucan, Taft North, Old Airport in Mandurriao District; and Lapuz Norte and Mansaya in Lapuz District is set on July 5-6.
The third batch from M.H. del Pilar, Calumpang, North Baluarte, South Baluarte in Molo District; and San Agustin, Gloria, Liberation, Martin Delgado in City Proper District will be on September 6-7.
The training for Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO), and Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel will be on May 24-25 and on July 26-27 with Transportation Management and Traffic Regulation Office (TMTRO).
Trainings for staffs from City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), PNP, City Engineer’s Office (CEO) are scheduled on Sept. 20- 21.
For the General Services Office (GSO) and City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) will be on Oct. 4-5.
Certified BLS trainers from CDRRMO team will discuss first aid, medical emergencies and condition techniques during the first day.
BLS procedures and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) will be demonstrated on the second day.
