A STUDENT of Capiz National High School won the top prize in the National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) 2018 regional essay writing contest held July 7, 2018 at Iloilo National High School in Iloilo City. Joanna Wayne Horneja bested 17 other students from various school divisions in Western Visayas to clinch first place in the writing competition organized by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD)-6.
Horneja’s entry automatically qualifies for the National Awards.
The contest was anchored on the theme “KATATAGAN SA KALAMIDAD ay Makakamtan Kapag Sapat ang Kaalaman sa Kahandaan.”
Horneja received a medal, a plaque of recognition, and P5,000 cash prize during the awarding ceremony held after the contest at Robinson’s Place-Iloilo mall.
Josh Aldrich Diola of Sum-ag National High School in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental landed on second place while Vince Regil Gravanza of Col. Ruperto Abellon National High School, Laua-an, Antique settled for third place. Each received a medal, a plaque of recognition and P4,000 and P3,000 cash prizes, respectively.
The final adjudication of the National Awards is on July 18, 2018 while the awarding of winners will be on July 31 during the National Closing Ceremony for NDRM 2018. (PIA-Iloilo)
