KALIBO, Aklan – Learning resources produced by teachers from Aklan will be showcased in a literature convention on August 12 in Aklan State University, Banga here.
The activity dubbed “AkLATCon: Aklan Literature and Arts Teachers Convention” will showcase over 300 K-to-12 curriculum-aligned learning resources like books, stories, songs, games, interactives, among others, made by Aklanon teachers from the 19 school districts in the province.
AkLATCon is a program conceptualized by the Learning Resources Management and Development System (LRMDS) of the Department of Education (DepEd)- Division of Aklan.
The activity aims to increase appreciation and awareness of the rich literature of the Aklanons which can be used in teaching.
The activity is also eyed to inspire teachers to keep on developing learning resources for the Aklanon learners and encourage budding artists and writers to promote Aklanon literature.
Keynote speakers for the event are: Melchor Cichon, the Father of Aklanon Literature and a recipient of the ‘Gawad Pambansang Alagad ni Balagtas’ of Unyon ng mga Manunulat sa Pilipinas (UMPIL) of the Writer’s Union of the Philippines; Dr. Luis Gatmaitan, a Filipino medical doctor and children’s author known for his work ‘Mga Kwento ni Tito Dok,’ and Noel De Leon, a film and documentary director and the founder of Kasingkasing Press which promotes Western Visayas literature.
