BACOLOD City – Ten schools are set to face off in the grand finals of the Energy Development Corporation’s (EDC) Positive Energy Battle of the Brains on Sept 14, 2018 at the Foundation University in Dumaguete City.
This year’s grand finalist schools are: Dr. Vicente F. Gustilo Memorial National High School and Riverside College, Inc. Senior High School from Bacolod area; Bago City College and Notre Dame of Bago City from Bago City area; Southland College and Mabinay Science High School from Kabankalan area; Okiot National High School and Cambagahan National High School from Bais City area; and Balugo National High School and Valencia National High School, the winners from Dumaguete City/Valencia area.
Now on its third year themed “Renewable Energy for a Brighter Future”, the regional science quiz bee for junior and senior high schools aims to continue spreading awareness on the importance of renewable energy as one of the solutions in fighting climate change.
Over 70 schools participated in the semi-finals in five key areas of Negros Island.
“We look forward to a very tight competition at the grand finals. All the student-representatives from the participating schools are very smart and knowledgeable in renewable energy and other topics related to the environment that was covered during the semi-finals,” Vicente D. Omandam, Jr. senior manager and head of EDC’s Reservoir and Project Management Division said.
All information and questions in the quiz bee have been verified by its panel of judges compose of Rodne Galicha, Climate Reality PH’s country manager; Dr. Paciencia Milan, former president of the Foundation of Philippine Environment and also former president of the Visayas State University; and Engr. Rey Maleza of the Department of Energy-Visayas.
EDC partnered with DRINK Editorial and Design, Hush Events Solutions, and the Tourism Educators Council of Negros Oriental and Siquijor.
