rampant in Boracay

PHILIPPINE Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA 6) confirmed that illegal drugs continue to proliferate in the world famous beach destination Boracay.

Atty. Ronnie Delicana, PDEA 6 chief legal counsel and designated spokesperson, said the interception of a cargo with 70 grams of shabu Monday at the Caticlan Airport only confirmed that drug traders are still keen in delivering illegal drugs to Boracay even with the prying eyes of law enforcers.

“But they were caught before they can even deliver and sell it,” Delicana said.

Delicana explained that the shabu was worth approximately P1 million based on the prevailing street price in Boracay, which is more expensive in urban centers across Western Visayas.

YESTERDAY’S regular session opened up with contrasting privilege speeches. And closed with a privilege hour also in contrast.

From a lengthy interpellation and extensive reaction generated by the privilege speech of 5th district Board Member Jett Rojas, it was total opposite for 1st district’s Gerardo Flores.

The topic was practically the same – the gun ban in northern Iloilo. Rojas was against it. (See related story). Flores was for it. In fact, the former general took time to “lecture” colleagues following what he said were moves by Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. and Anilao Mayor Ma. Theresa Debuque to “belittle” the gun ban.

Robredo’s confirmation

By: Francis Allan L. Angelo

AN Ilonggo congressman threatened to derail the confirmation of Interior and Local Government Sec. Jesse Robredo if he does not withdraw the gun ban imposed by the PNP on the 5th district of Iloilo province.

Rep. Ferjenel G. Biron (4th district, Iloilo) said he can block Robredo’s confirmation since he is a member of the House of Representative’s contingent to the Commission on Appointments (CA).

“Sec. Robredo must direct the PNP to withdraw the suspension of the permit to carry firearms outside of residence (PTCFOR) or his appointment will be put on the line,” Biron said.

Biron also opposed the gun ban in the 5th district saying it did not pass through consultations with mayors and other officials of the eight affected towns.
