The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) reiterated that penalties and even imprisonment await poachers of wildlife species, especially those endemic to the country.

The DENR echoed the call after authorities seized a large number of protected animals during a raid on a home in Tondo, Manila last week.

Residents of Western Visayas were called to make the region safe and resilient against disasters by taking seriously the disaster preparations implemented by the government like the fire and earthquake drills, tree planting activities, etc.

Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) chairperson Rosario Cabrera made the call during the recent kickoff program of the region’s observance of the 2013 National Disaster Consciousness Month held at the Iloilo State College of Fisheries Dumangas Campus in Dumangas, Iloilo.

ROXAS City – A computer-based registry of the Capiz provincial government – sponsored Primary Care Benefit (PCB) program of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) will be put in place at the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital (RMPH) and four other district hospitals in the province.

The Project ReBUILD to be launched in Iloilo is expected to make communities surrounding Jalaur River System manage disaster risks and adapt to the overall impacts of climate change.

Representatives from the Climate Change Commission, the implementing partner of the project, arrived in this city recently to coordinate with local partners and make preparations for the launch of Project ReBUILD, which coincides with the observance of the National Disaster Consciousness Month.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) of Kalibo has been adjudged 1st place in the Search for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management and humanitarian Assistance 2013 in the 1st to 3rd class municipalities category.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Igbaras, Iloilo is pushing for the organization of rescue groups based in the barangays to ensure immediate response in times of disasters.

Igbaras BFP Fire Marshall Insp. Armando Emboltorio proposed the creation of a Rescue Organization before the Liga ng mga Barangay, the same proposal he submitted to the Office of the Mayor.

The first university in Western Visayas began its series of monthly church visitations at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church, Cabatuan, Iloilo, June 30.

In celebration of its 60th year of becoming a university, the University of San Agustin has broken ground in its church visitations at the Parish of Cabatuan with Basic Education Department Principal Rev. Fr. BasilioSugata-on, OSA as the main presider of the Eucharistic celebration.

The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in Western Visayas has scheduled its annual Campus Journalism Seminar Workshops from July to August.
PIA-6 Director Janet Mesa said there will be two batches for college publications slated July 24-26 for those from Aklan, Antique and Negros Occidental, and July 31-August 2 for the second batch from Iloilo, Capiz and Guimaras.
For the first time, Mesa said, PIA-6 is inviting participants from schools in Central and Eastern Visayas.
