Iloilo launches massive anti-dengue drive anew

Employees of the Iloilo provincial government and Cabatuan municipal government led the ceremonial launching of the People Power Kontra Dengue in the said town yesterday morning in response to the rising Dengue fever cases in the province.

Armed with bamboo sticks and garbage bags, the government employees together with policemen and other volunteers trooped to Brgy. Tiring after the program held at the town plaza to clean the surroundings and destroy possible breeding places of mosquitoes.

BACOLOD City — The region’s young children and pregnant women including those of Regions 5 and 9 were identified beneficiaries of the UNICEF-European funded Maternal and Young Child Nutrition Security Initiative in Asia or MYCNSIA project.
MYCNSIA aims to reduce stunting levels in children under -2 years old, anemia rates among 6-23 months old children and anemia rates among pregnant women by 2014.
National Food Authority-Negros Occidental Assistant Provincial Manager Jobe Chua said that being the Iron-fortified rice producer, NFA is one of the partner agencies of the project together with the Provincial Nutrition Council and the Provincial Health Office.

The World Vision with its local non-government organization partner the Palanan-awan Pangkauswagan sang Antique (PPSA) is eyeing the expansion of its Farmers Field Schools to two barangays in Sibalom, Antique after the success of its initiated field school in the town of Hamtic also in the province.

Jose Leo Lasara, World Vision-PPSA Economic Development Facilitator, said they have started the organic way of growing vegetables in Linaban, Hamtic a year ago and would now like to replicate the project to the two barangays in Sibalom.

THE PHILIPPINE Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth 6) forged a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Malaga Cuenca Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (MCARBEN) for the initial enrolment of its 70 members under the new iGroup Program of PhilHealth for Organized Groups (OG).

With the MOA, members of MCARBEN, a union of farmers belonging to the Hacienda Malaga-Cuenca Multi-Purpose Cooperative and Hacienda Malaga Independent Workers Union in La Castellana town in Negros Occidental are now assured of an automatic availment of PhilHealth benefits starting July 2013.

Iloilo will try to make history today by flying some 15,000 sky lanterns in a single release at the football grounds of the University of the Philippines in the Visayas in Miag-ao.

Organized by the Middle Way Meditation Institute, the event will gather some 10,000 volunteers who will fly the lanterns at 6 p.m. tonight before the thousands of spectators and a number of representatives of the Guinness World Records.

KALIBO — Aklan province has been chosen as the venue in Western Visayas for the annual celebration of the International Museum Day (IMD) on May 31 to June 2.

Irene Gaston, president of the Western Visayas Museum Association (WVMA), said the IMD is an annual worldwide celebration since 1977 which aims to raise public awareness on the role of museums in developing society.

The event is spearheaded by the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the WVMA and the Archbishop Gabriel M. Reyes Memorial Foundation Incorporated (AGMRMF) as local partner.

The Philippine Army’s 61st Infantry (Hunter) Battalion (61IB) based in Camp Carreon, Calinog, Iloilo joined parents, teachers and pupils in the “Brigada Eskwela” program in the different schools within their area of responsibility in Calinog and Bingawan in Iloilo and in Tapaz, Capiz.

61st IB commander Lt. Col. Christopher Sab-it, said the 61IB supports the yearly school maintenance program “to show the people that if we join hands, we can achieve our common goal – the true essence of ‘Bayanihan.’”

The Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) 6 is now set to groundbreak the construction of the halfway home for children with cancer on June 6 at the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao, Iloilo City.

According to PhilHealth 6, the project was made possible through the successful conduct of the PhilHealth-DOH Simultaneous Nationwide Run 2013: Run for Mother and Child Protection held last February, with the Mga Kaibigan ng Kabataang May Kanser, Inc. (KKK) as its local beneficiary.

TRUE to its promise of providing prompt and efficient service to its accredited health care providers and members of the National Health Insurance Program (NHIP), PhilHealth Regional Office (PRO) VI has been awarded as the best performing region for its “zero backlog” in claims processing for CY 2012.

DOH Secretary and PhilHealth President and CEO, Dr. Enrique T. Ona commended PhilHealth in Region 6 for its excellent performance in significantly reducing the turn-around time in claims processing and maintaining a zero backlog during the awarding ceremony held in celebration of the Corporation’s 18th year anniversary.

PRO VI received an incentive worth P100,000 for the said recognition.

Reports show that despite the marked increase in claims received from a daily average of 1,200 in 2011 to 1,700 in 2012, claims in PRO 6 were processed at an average of five to seven days.

KALIBO – Those who want to correct their wrong birth entries in their birth certificates can now do so with an easier process, according to the National Statistics Office (NSO) here.

According to the NSO, Republic Act 10172 which took effect October 24, 2012, authorizes municipal or city civil registrars or consul-generals to correct clerical or typographical errors in the day and month in the date of birth and the sex of the person appearing in the civil register without need of going to court for a judicial order.

Some 10,000 volunteers and advocates of peace are stepping up preparations for the “Inaugural Light of Peace Event in the Philippines” set May 24 at the University of the Philippines in the Visayas – Miag-ao Campus.

According to organizer Middle Way Meditation Institute (MMI), the event will try to set a new Guinness world record for the most number of sky lanterns released in a single event, a record hold by Romania with 12,470 sky lanterns released in 2012 during an opening of a mall.
