Turn-over of school building caps Balikatan in Panay

ROXAS City – The month-long Balikatan Exercises in Panay held mostly in Capiz culminated with a turn-over of completed two-classroom building at Don Joaquin Artuz Memorial School in Brgy. Taft, Tapaz town recently.

According to 3ID Public Affairs Office head, Major Rey Tiongson, the the PH-US Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response Exercise concluded with the turn-over of the school built by both Filipino and US soldiers.

Capiz dances on ‘Yugyugan’ Day

SEVERAL dance groups in Roxas City, Capiz danced their hearts out last April 29, 2015 at the Capitol grounds in celebration of the International Dance Day and National Dance Week.

The activity was also in line with the simultaneous “Yugyugan para sa Kultura ng Bayan” led by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).

50 Capiceños have HIV

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – More or less 50 Capiceños were infected by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), according to records from the City Health Office (CHO).

Fe Salgado, Health Education and Promotion officer of the CHO, said 2 of the 50 HIV infected persons  died already while 48 are still alive.

Salgado said that the 1st half of 2014, 48 were recorded with HIV cases while two were added later.

US army, navy to hold humanitarian mission

ROXAS CITY, Capiz—The US Army and Navy are set to hold two weeks of humanitarian missions in Capiz in July this year.

Dubbed the “Pacific Partnership 2015,” the mission will involve US servicemen on board USNS Mercy, one of the two hospital ships of the US Navy under the Naval Fleet Auxiliary Force (NFAF).

According to US Army Capt John Karlsson, the USNS Mercy will arrive in Roxas City in the third week of July and will stay for two weeks here.

Roxas City gets P447M in housing assistance

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – The city government of Roxa is set to distribute shelter assistance to victims of super typhoon Yolanda whose houses were totally damaged.

Mayor Angel Alan Celino formally received a check for P447.6 million from Rosario A. San Agustin, chief of the Protective Services Unit of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Regional Field Office 6, for the Emergency Shelter Assistance (ESA) last Monday, Jan. 19.

Celino was accompanied by Josephine Degala, team leader of DSWD-Capiz field office and City Social Welfare and Development Officer Cynthia Besana.

Man nabbed for illegal drug

ROXAS CITY, Capiz— A 64-year-old man was arrested Sunday evening for alleged illegal drug pushing.

Rolando Bocala Sr. of Sitio Nipa, Brgy. Culasi here was arrested in a buy-bust operation conducted by the Roxas City police at his house.

Recovered from the suspect were four sachets of suspected shabu, P500 marked bill, two knives, a motorcycle, a lighter and other drug paraphernalia.

Mambusao man commits suicide

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – A man from Mambusao, Capiz committed suicide by hanging himself inside his room Sunday evening.

Toto (not his real name) was found hanging by his father, a fireman of the said town.

The father had to destroy the door after Toto padlocked and nailed it.

Revenge, drugs eyed in parolee’s murder

Insp. Herbert Gervero of the Roxas City police station said they are focusing their probe on revenge and illegal drugs as possible motives for the death of Rosevem Cabalquinto, 37, of Punta Tabuc village here.

Rosevem Cabalquinto of Barangay Punta Tabuc died at the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital (RMPH) a few minutes after he was shot in the head.

ROXAS City, Capiz — The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Capiz on Monday approved the long over-due salaries and bonuses of casual and contractual employees of the Roxas City government.

SP member Emmanuel “Tawi” Billones Jr. posted on his Facebook Account that the provincial board approved the validity of the appropriation ordinance passed by the Roxas City council during its special session held last Dec. 20, 2014.
