SLOWEST IN 14 MONTHS: Guimaras inflation rate eases further to 2.6% in February

THE February 2019 inflation rate of Guimaras province continued to move at a slower pace in four months straight from 5.4 percent in November 2018 to 4.7 and 3.2 percent in December and January 2019 and eased to 2.6 percent in February of the current year, which is the slowest inflation of the province in 14 months.

The slowest inflation rate is mainly attributed to the slower increment posted by the heavily weighted commodity group: Housing, water electricity, gas and other fuels, which decreased by 1.43 percent, from 118.6 percent in Feb 2018 to 115.9 percent in February 2019.

The transport sector also showed deceleration of 0.43 percent.

Moreover, comparing the indices of the following commodities a month ago to January 2019, the indices of Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (127.5); Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (115.9); Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Maintenance of the House (133.0); (Health (112.4) Communication (99.9); and Education (116.6) remained unchanged.

Across provinces, Guimaras ranked third among the provinces of Western Visayas in terms of high inflation rate; Negros Occidental got the fastest rate at 4.7 percent in February 2019, next is Capiz at 4.1 percent, then Iloilo, Aklan and Antique at 2.5, 2.3 and 1.9 percent, respectively.
