Iloilo province sets

early palay harvest

THE province of Iloilo is expecting early harvest of palay this end of July or first week of August, Iloilo provincial agriculture officer Dr. Ildefonso Toledo said.

Toledo said that because of the continuous rain, farmers in Iloilo planted early in April instead of May, the start of the regular first cropping for the year.

Farmers particularly in the towns of Barotac Nuevo, Pototan and other towns in the fourth district are already making initial harvest because of the quick turn around this month or early August.

Toledo, however, said that he could not yet ascertain as to how many hectares of rice fields would be harvested as assessments are ongoing.

The targeted harvest this year is one million metric tons. (PNA)
