ROXAS City – The National Food Authority shipped 19,665 bags equivalent to 983 metric tons of NFA rice to Tacloban, Leyte.
Capiz NFA Manager Oliver Cambas said that the shipment is composed of 12,567 bags of imported rice and 7,098 bags of local rice.
“This is to augment the depleting stocks of rice in Tacloban, Leyte for the consumption of the population in the area,” he said.
The Capiz food agency is also augmenting rice supply to other parts of the country.
Cambas assured Capiceños that the shipments of rice stocks will not result to rice shortage in the province.
Capiz is one of the large palay-producing provinces in Western Visayas with approximate palay production of 21,000 metric tons last year.
On the other hand, he urged farmers to continue to sell their palay to the NFA for the government has enough fund for its palay procurement program. (PIA/Capiz)
