THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) needs to hire more personnel to implement its tax programs and help achieve its collection targets.
In a forum held recently at Diversion 21 Hotel in Iloilo City, BIR Commissioner Caesar Dulay said their present workforce is 10,500, below the 21,000 approved plantilla positions.
“We contribute 80 percent of the revenues of the government and yet we are only operating at 50 percent capacity,” Dulay said.
He encouraged those who are interested to join the BIR workforce to apply in the regional offices and the revenue district offices (RDOs).
“I appeal to those interested to apply to the RDOs and to the regional directors not only because you need a job but if you want to serve the country and see to it that this country will continue to operate,” he said.
Meanwhile, Alberto Olasiman, regional director of BIR Revenue Region No.11 in Iloilo, said the region has 616 approved plantilla positions.
He said that the region’s current workforce is 361, with 255 plantilla items yet to be filled.
Revenue Region No. 11 is comprised of five RDOs – RDO 71 in Kalibo, Aklan; RDO 72 in Roxas City, Capiz; RDO 73 in San Jose Antique; RDO 74 in Iloilo City; and RDO 75 in Zarraga, Iloilo. (PIA-Iloilo)
