Boeing Issues Directive for Airlines to Inspect 787 Cockpit Seats Following Latam Incident
Boeing Issues Safety Reminder for Airlines Following Incident on Dreamliner Flight
Boeing has instructed airlines to check the cockpit seats of its 787 Dreamliner plane after an incident involving a Latam Airlines flight. The incident occurred when a flight attendant accidentally hit a switch on a seat, causing a pilot to lose control of the plane. This led to a drop in altitude, resulting in injuries to passengers on board the flight to Auckland, New Zealand.
According to The Wall Street Journal, unnamed U.S. industry officials believe the incident was caused by the seat switch being activated. Aviation regulators are currently investigating the incident and have not yet released any findings.
Boeing has reminded airlines of a safety memo from 2017 regarding the inspection and maintenance of flight deck seat switches. The company has advised operators to perform inspections at the next maintenance opportunity. Boeing has also stated that they are deferring to the investigation authorities on any potential findings from the ongoing investigation on Flight LA800.
Passenger safety is a top priority for Boeing and the company is working closely with airlines to ensure that all necessary precautions are being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future. Airlines are urged to follow Boeing’s guidelines and conduct thorough inspections to prevent any potential issues with cockpit seats on their Dreamliner planes.
