A 53-YEAR-OLD woman was shot dead inside a restaurant 6 p.m. of Jan. 11, 2018 in Concepcion, Iloilo.
May Luzurriaga, an employee of the Municipal Engineering Office of the nearby Sara town, succumbed to a lone gunshot injury on the left portion of her back. The bullet exited her chest.
Luzurriaga, a resident of Poblacion Ilauod, Sara, was with her helper and an officemate when the shooting happened.
Chief Inspector Abner Jordan, Concepcion police chief, said the victim arrived with two women companions at Nory’s Refreshment at around 5:45 p.m. Thursday.
After placing their order, the victim and her companions were conversing when the lone gunman arrived.
Footage from the closed circuit television (CCTV) camera showed that the assailant walked inside the restaurant without anything covering his face.
Once inside, he wore a face mask and a pair of sunglasses before shooting the victim once.
Luzurriaga’s companions and the restaurant staff were unscathed.
The gunman briskly walked outside and fled.
Jordan said they received information that he fled on board a motorcycle.
But police could not ascertain if the gunman was the one driving or someone else ran the getaway vehicle.
The victim was rushed to Sara District Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.
While the CCTV footage captured the suspect, Jordan said they still have no information on his identity.
Police investigators have also yet to establish the motive of the killing.
“Although it doesn’t appear that it was a case of mistaken identity. The killer knew his target,” Jordan added.
Luzurriaga, the daughter of former Sara Vice Mayor Bonifacio Luzurriaga, is a single parent.
Jordan said Luzurriaga’s death is not connected to illegal drugs because she was never involved in the narcotics trade.
