LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON – Minor, pal collared in drug buy-bust

A 16-YEAR old boy followed the footsteps of his father who is facing illegal drug charges.

Jun (not his real name) and his friend, John Angelo Calapillo, 18, were arrested in a buy-bust operation at around 11:30 a.m. of July 15, 2017 in Pototan, Iloilo.

Jun is the son of Barangay Captain Ramon Platon of Intaluan village while Calapillo is a resident of Barangay Tumcon Ilawod, Pototan.

Both are Grade 10 students of Pototan National High School.

The two teenage boys were arrested after selling a sachet of suspected shabu to an undercover police agent at Barangay San Jose Ward.

Recovered from their possession were 7 sachets of suspected shabu including the “buy-bust item”, P500 marked money, 3 mobile phones, two pouches, and a Honda Wave 110CC motorcycle.

According to Senior Inspector Bonifacio Alabe Jr., Pototan police chief, the two suspects were never subjected to Oplan Tokhang, the PNP’s anti-illegal drugs campaign.

The two teenagers allegedly got tangled in the illegal drug trade in June 2017.

Jun apparently took over the “business” after his father’s arrest on Feb. 25, 2017.

“But we learned that he’s been into illegal drug use as early as 12 or 13 years old,” Alabe said.

Police are not discounting the possibility that the suspects, along with three other unnamed group members, were selling shabu to schoolmates.

Alabe mentioned of reports that the suspects also held pot session inside the school campus.

Just like his father, Jun allegedly established a contact with a supplier.

“He doesn’t personally keep illegal drugs in their house. He will get the order and will instruct the supplier that this certain person will pay and get the drugs,” Alabe said.

Calapillo is also believed to be Jun’s runner.

“At their age, their very clever. They wouldn’t sell unless you have paid. Once you pay for your purchase, that’s the time Jun would order his cohort to get the supply,” Alabe said.

The two suspects even told the police poseur-buyer that they could sell a bulto or 5 grams of shabu for only P20,000.

But Alabe said they have no enough money to cover the amount.

“We settled for P1,000 but Calapillo told the buyer that they would first sell P500 worth of shabu and the remaining P500 would be on the next transaction,” he added.

A test buy was completed on July 12, prompting the police to mount the bust.

‘HIS FATHER’S SON’

Jun’s father, Ramon Platon, was earlier tagged as Iloilo province’s topmost drug personality

PDEA-6 operatives arrested the 50-year old Platon and Bram Pimentel at the former’s house in Barangay Intaluan.

PDEA operatives seized more or less a kilo of shabu, with an estimated street value of at least P8 million.

Platon’s alleged main supplier was slain drug group leader Melvin Odicta, Sr. and another drug group leader, Richard Prevendido, who remains at-large.

Platon also has a standing arrest warrant for double murder.

In July 2013, Pimentel and his two village watchmen (tanods) were arrested in a raid on a suspected drug den in Ledesma Street, Poblacion, Pototan.

Pimentel was a village chief when arrested.
