ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Not one judge or court employee at the Roxas City Hall of Justice joined calls for the resignation of Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno.
Organizers of the “Resign Sereno” initiative urged judges and court workers to wear red shirts on Monday, Mar 12, 2018 to dramatize their call.
But Hall of Justice workers here did not heed the campaign.
Regional Trial Court(RTC) Executive Judge Esperanza Poco-Deslate said they have no direct communication with fellow judges on whether they would join or not.
“We are business as usual as we are busy with our job,” Deslate said.
In Manila, the heads of the Philippine Judges Association (PJA), Supreme Court Employees Association, SC Assembly of Lawyer Employees, Sandiganbayan Employees Union and the Philippine Association of Court Employees urged the embattled Chief Justice to step down.
In a one-page joint statement that was read at flag-raising ceremonies at the SC Monday morning, the organizations said Sereno is no longer fit to lead the branch that she headed since 2012.
“We, the entire force of the judiciary, which includes judges, officials and court employees under your leadership, are pleading with you, our beloved Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno, to do the timely and necessary sacrifice for the institution that you gave so much time and love in these past years,” read the statement written in Filipino.
Last week, the House committee on justice, through a vote of 38-2, found probable cause in the impeachment complaint filed by lawyer Larry Gadon against Sereno.
