Are we getting Closer to finding a Cure to Cancer?
There are many different kinds of cancer, which makes it a difficult question to answer. However, scientists agree that we should discover more vaccines and other medicines in the years to come, that will help lower the number of sick people. The other solution is an important topic as well: learning to live healthily. Here is more on the subject.
New Detection Material to the Rescue
If there is one reason why cancer research is moving forward so rapidly in this day and age, it has to be the fact that scientists now have access to material which makes their work easier. That is especially the case when they use a multi-mode microplate reader. They have become famous during the coronavirus crisis, as they were the first tool that enabled doctors to identify patients that were infected, rapidly (within 30 minutes).
Microplate readers are being used in different ways, in regards to cancer. First, they are able to detect a cancerous cell, which enables doctors to place a diagnosis for a patient. Secondly, it enables them to chose which medicine should be used for the treatment, by identifying precisely the type of cancer and how advanced it is. Later on, new tests will inform on the state of the patient, which will tell if the treatment is working or not. Finally, it is a great tool for researchers, who can make a large variety of tests rapidly, to confirm their theories on new treatments.
Stopping an Infection from turning into Cancer
Scientists now know that 20% of all cancer come from a prior infection. This is good news, since we know how to cure infections. We can immunize people against them through vaccines, which makes it entirely possible that we can completely eradicate these types of cancer, in the future. Let’s mention Hepatitis B, which can turn into liver cancer and Human Papillomavirus, which causes cervical cancer that we can already treat this way. Both of them already have vaccines available to protect individuals from being infected in the first place. Research has led to discovering new infectious agents that cause various cancers, which means that we can look for a solution to stopping those as well, in a relatively short amount of time.
Prevention should play a Major Role
If you don’t want to find yourself suffering from cancer in the future, you should take the necessary measures to reduce the risk by yourself, first. There is a European code against cancer that identifies twelve ways that a person can reduce the risk. Scientists now believe that between 30% and 40% of all cancers can be avoided, if only people would follow this code. It is not hard to do either.
Smoking is a major actor in causing cancer and should be banned. Diets that lack fruits and vegetables are another issue that can create cancer inside a person. Obesity is also a problem that most people can handle by themselves, in order to remain cancer-free. And so, it is the role of the scientific community and of governments worldwide, to educate people better on what can save them from having cancer one day.
