Pictures of the Earth and the Moon from space surprise the world
Seoul, South Korea /
the Pictures are taken from space It’s always worth admiring, because it’s a window into what we still don’t know about our planet. Now it was the first lunar probe from South Korea, Danuriwhich conveyed great pictures in Black and white of the moon’s surface the earth.
Danori — an acronym for “dal” meaning moon and “nuri” meaning enjoyment — blasted off from the United States on a SpaceX rocket in August and entered lunar orbit in December after a long gas-saving voyage.
These images, taken between December 24 and January 1, were taken less than 120 kilometers from the lunar surface, according to a statement from the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI).
The images and videos will be used to identify sites likely to host lunar landings in 2032. The South Korean Space Center reported on Tuesday.
The space center said Danuri makes a complete orbit around the moon every two hours. It will also test the “space internet,” an experimental technology, by sending photos and videos back to Earth.
The orbiter will begin its science mission next month, during which it will map and analyze the lunar surface and make measurements of magnetic strength and gamma rays.
President Yoon Seok Yul celebrated Danori’s exploits in December, speaking of a “historic moment” in the history of South Korea’s space program.
South Korea has made ambitious space plans, including landing a spacecraft by 2032 and sending a lander to Mars by 2045.
