How do you effectively clean car IAC valves?
The IAC, or idle control valve, responds to computer commands. When the computer realizes that the vehicle temperature is low and there are not enough revs, it sends an electrical impulse to the valve to allow more air into the cylinder.
For a car to run well, the amount of air entering the engine is also very important, just like fuel. Oxygen makes combustion better, in fact, without oxygen, the car loses power and other malfunctions appear.
This is the place important IAC valve, Since it is necessary to start the car when it is cold and maintain the necessary revolutions at idle.
We can’t deny that The IAC valve is a very important component in the engine And in order to keep this valve always working in good condition, it is important to clean it.
How to clean the IAC valve?
Over time, the IAC valve will build up carbon causing that valve to become clogged or dirty, and the result is more or less air flow to your engine. When this happens you will have to change it or clean it, it all depends on the condition of the valve.
If cleaning the valve works properly, do so and you can save money by not buying a new one.
1.- Locate the idle air control valve
The idle air control valve is usually located near the throttle position sensor attached somewhere around the throttle body. In the same place you can find the throttle body as well as the IAC valve.
Make sure you find the correct IAC valve or you could ruin your entire engine if you find the wrong one.
2.- Disconnect the air intake hose from the filter housing
Next step, use a screwdriver to loosen and remove the screws used to secure the filter housing. In this step, the power line associated with the MAF sensor should also be disconnected in case there is a problem with your vehicle.
After removing the air inlet, you can access the idle air valve. If you still can’t find it, check your car manual.
3.- Remove all clamps attached to the IACV
Separates all clamps that hold the IAC valve. In this step, you will find the throttle body and your task is to put a small hole or passage through it.
4.- Clean the IAC valve
When cleaning the inside of the valve, you will need a brush and specialized cleaners such as carburetor cleaners. Wipe or spray the inside of the triangular face to remove any sediment and make sure there is no carbon residue.
Spray carburetor cleaner on the pointed end of the valve. Try not to get any cleaners into the valve housing, as this can damage it.
