Two House Republicans tell CNN that they expect at least 140 House Republicans to vote against counting electoral votes
Republican allies of President Donald Trump have almost zero chance of changing the outcome, with just a few hours’ delay confirming Biden as Election College winner and the next president.
There is no credible allegation of any issue with voting that affects the election, as confirmed by dozens of judges, governors, election officials, electorates, the Department of Justice, the Department of Homeland Security, and the US Supreme Court. But Trump is determined to claim that he did not give up – which he did, significantly – and many GOP politicians either share their confusion or fear of inflaming their anger – even if it means Weakening democracy.
Trump has been pushing Congress to try to reverse the election result as his campaign’s attempts to reverse the election through the courts have repeatedly been rejected.
“The president and his allies are playing with fire,” he wrote. “They are asking – first the courts, then the state assemblies, now Congress – to reverse the results of a presidential election. They have unsuccessfully called judges and now call federal office owners to invalidate millions and millions of votes.” If you make big claims, you had better evidence. But the president will not object to the institutional arson members of Congress, nor the Electoral College vote. “
Of the more than a dozen Republican House members who have already publicly stated they will vote against counting the next electoral votes, Reps are. Al Brooka’s Mo Brooks, who is leading the effort, Jody Hyes of Georgia, Jeff Drew of New Jersey and. Joe Wilson of South Carolina.
Included in that group are eight Republican lawmakers from Pennsylvania, who announced their intentions in a joint statement on Thursday.
Several incoming Republican House members have also said they would object to the certification process, including Reps-Election Marjorie Taylor Green of Georgia, Madison Cowthorn of North Carolina, Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Diana Hershberger of Tennessee.
