Attorney General Barr Hunter Biden will not name special counsel for investigation
Outgoing Attorney General William Burr said on Monday that he saw no reason for a special counsel to handle the criminal investigation of President-elect’s son, Hunter Biden. Joe Biden, President’s resignation Donald Trump once again.
Trump has pushed the Justice Department to appoint a special counsel for the investigation, which focuses on Hunter Biden’s taxesd which is currently being handled by the US Attorney’s Office in Delaware.
Two days before his resignation from the Justice Department, Barre said in a press conference, “To the extent that in an investigation, I think it is being handled responsibly and professionally within the department.”
“And at this point I have not found any reason to appoint a special counsel, and I see no reason to do so before I leave,” Barr said.
“If I think a special counsel was the right tool, I would name one, but I haven’t.”
Barr also said he expected the Biden administration to investigate Hunter Biden “responsibly”.
The appointment of Joe Biden or his officers as a special counsel is seen as a means to prevent any pressure on the US attorney’s office to go smoothly over Hunter Biden.
Special Counsels are appointed by the Attorney General to investigate a lawyer or person when there is a conflict of interest between the federal prosecutor or the divisions of the Department of Justice if they handle the investigation.
Incoming acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen declined to say last week whether he would appoint a special counsel for the Hunter Biden investigation.

Joe Biden has said that he will not interfere in federal prosecutors’ decisions.
“This is not my Justice Department. This is the people’s Justice Department,” Biden said in a recent interview.
Barr submitted his resignation last week, denigrating Trump, denying the president’s claim that he lost the presidential election to Joe Biden as a result of massive ballot fraud.
Barr said in an interview with the Associated Press that the DOJ had seen no evidence to reverse Biden’s election.
On Monday, Barr said he was commenting in that interview on whether systemic or broad-based voting was fraud.
“I stand by that statement,” he said.

Hunter Biden, a lawyer and businessman, said two weeks ago that he was the focus of an investigation by Trump, the US attorney for Delvar, his home state. The revelation took place after the presidential election.
