Snow and flood… Storm forecast this week in the United States.
(CNN) — Starting on Monday, February 21, a series of winter storms will affect the northern part of the United States, especially from the northern Plains to the Great Lakes.
The Weather Prediction Center (WPC) describes this as a “major winter storm.”As of Monday morning, nearly 25 million people are under some kind of winter storm alert.
“A combination of snow, frost and icy rain on two waves could reach parts of the region,”wok said.
The first will be a smaller wave on Monday with slightly fewer effects, basically just a quick stroke of snow or a winter mix. Then, as soon as Tuesday, another larger winter explosion will travel through the same areas. It will leave a mark.
Another system will cross the country later this week, which we will talk about later.
But first things first. Snowfall will begin to affect the northern states as early as Monday. Snow in the northern Plains and upper Midwest states will be severe, with snowfall rates of 2.5 cm per hour at times.
“Increased wind can lead to snow flying and moving dramatically”, Wok said.
This can lead to near blizzard conditions in this region, including places like Minneapolis.
“Snow rates reduced visibility up to 800 meters in the heaviest snow, so periods with stronger winds can provide occasional blizzard conditions,”the National Weather Service said.
This will create dangerous travel conditions and possible delays at Minneapolis airport.
“The total amount of snowfall is likely to exceed six inches from the Dakota to the top of the Great Lakes,”wook said. “More than 12 inches are possible in some areas over the two days.”
