Panama prepares to qualify for the Cricket World Cup
Panama City, October 30 (EFE). The Panama cricket team on Saturday completed its preparations for the South American qualifiers for the Cricket World Cup, which will be held from November 7 to 14 in Antigua and Barbuda.
“The team is well focused, it is a team that brings together experienced and young people,” Irfan Tragia, one of the most experienced players in the Panamanian team, told Efe on Saturday.
According to the game schedule, Panama will open its participation in the confrontation with the United States.
Tragia said that facing these giants is sometimes a “dream” for many players.
“The tournament will be very competitive, and there will be teams like the United States, Canada and Bermuda that will represent the standards in the region. Our ultimate goal, as athletes, is to represent Panama well, regardless of the outcome,” said Tragia.
He pointed out that the youth are the strength of the team without neglecting the hitters, strikers and the playing staff.
“As they say in English, we are the ‘underdog’ (the team that has a little chance of winning the championship), so we hope to present this surprise, but we have this conviction and the desire to do our best, surely there may be surprises,” he said.
The 16-man Panamanian team continued its training in the Panama-Pacific region, west of the Panamanian capital, with full conviction that it was a contender in the tournament that brings together the best teams on the continent.

This Saturday, the Central American team, who just won a championship in Colombia this month, trained for an hour and a half, showing themselves ready to face the championship.
“The Panama League takes place from January to April or May in the summer, but we have worked in the past four weeks, making time to give our best in this tournament,” Tragia said at the end of the training.
Originally, the tournament was scheduled to take place in August 2020. In May 2021, the tournament was postponed again due to the covid-19 epidemic and will finally take place next November.
