SEP: UNICEF makes a vital request to return to school
A few days before the start of the 2021-22 school cycle, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on Monday asked the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) to provide more information to parents about the advantages and disadvantages of back-to-face lessons.
Information on the level of contagion of behavior in schools has not been published. In Italy, the UK and France, schools reopened and closed when there was a peak in the pandemic. Here, in Mexico, it is not known that schools in Argentina are open, said Paola Gemez, the institution’s education officer in Mexico.
Likewise, Gemeez noted that boys and girls who go to school “account for 0.02 percent of infections,” which is why they are more likely “in shopping malls, movie theaters, parks or other places where they are already, compared to going back to school.” .
Is it mandatory to return to face-to-face lessons?
Last Friday, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said some risks should be taken when returning to face-to-face lessons in Mexico, after students were forced to continue their studies remotely.
Similarly, he stressed that returning to class is not compulsory or coercive.
We will be vigilant that children are not infected, that others are protected and are being screened, and taken care of. Like everything in life, we have to take certain risks. “Imagine if we didn’t go out because something might happen to us, we’d be locked up all the time,” said the chief.
Earlier, SEP issued a 10-protocol of procedures for resuming face-to-face activities in educational institutions in the country.
The school cycle 2021-2022 for the basic level will start on August 30, 2021. It is scheduled to end on July 28, 2022.
