The ship explodes in the port of Dubai
Dubai United Arab Emirates- The authorities said that a fire broke out in a cargo ship docked in Dubai in one of the largest ports in the world, causing an explosion that shook the commercial center of the United Arab Emirates.
Giant flames billowed from the ship in the lively Jebel Ali port, the busiest in the Middle East, located on the eastern side of the Arabian Peninsula. The burning caused a shock wave that spread throughout the city, shaking buildings and windows in neighborhoods up to 25 kilometers away.
No casualties were reported at the moment in the port, where most US warships arrive outside the United States.
In the early hours of Thursday morning, the Dubai government said in a statement that emergency services had brought the fire under control. On social media, authorities posted pictures of firefighters spraying water on giant containers. In the background was the glow of fire.
It is not known at the present time the extent of the damage to the large port and the cargo that was located in it. The cause of the fire was not known. The port authorities said that they are taking all necessary measures to ensure the continuation of normal vessel movement without any interruption.
Mona Al-Marri, Director General of the Media Office in Dubai, told the state-run Al-Arabiya channel that this incident “could happen anywhere in the world” and that the Government Communications Office is working on issuing data quickly to avoid spreading rumors as the causes of the fire are under investigation.
At around 11:45 p.m., Dubai residents who registered with their phones from high-rise buildings posted videos on social media showing a huge fireball lighting up the sky.
