300 foreign swimmers will pass through Torremolinos
A total of 300 swimmers will pass through the Virgen del Carmen III pool throughout this October to develop a training period. Specifically, about 13 teams from central and northern Europe chose Torremolinos to prepare for the upcoming competitions, taking advantage of the city’s favorable climate.
Denmark, Norway, Switzerland, Estonia, the United Kingdom, France and Ireland are the countries of origin of these groups staying in local hotels, and their presence contributes to the de-seasonalization of the region. Some of these teams repeat their experience in the pool Virgen del Carmen III, while others come to Torremolinos for the first time, attracted by the good sports facilities, the spacious hotel facilities or the proximity to Malaga airport.
Sigma from the UK and Lucerne from Switzerland are the two largest groups of fifteen athletes who will conduct a double training session at the Virgen del Carmen III pool.
The presence of these teams complements the hotel occupancy data for the current month of October, which is 72% according to an estimate made by the Association of Hotel Owners of the Costa del Sol (Aehcos), strengthening an international premium presence. Tourism accounts for 70% of the total number of tourists.
The city is particularly attractive for the Nordic clubs, which in these winter months see a significant drop in temperatures resolved by moving to the Costa del Sol with a more pleasant climate that allows them to continue the rhythm of their training.
Torremolinos City Council is committed to sports tourism as one of the sectors promoting tourism in the city, since in addition to conducting their training in the municipality, the athletes benefit from their stay to enjoy it and its wide complementary offer.
