BACOLOD City – Police in Negros Occidental "is still on high morale" amid the continuing cleansing of the ranks of the police force, Senior Supt. William Senoron, provincial police director.

Senoron was reacting to the revelations of self-confessed drug personality Ricky Serenio (not Sereno as reported earlier) who tagged some police officers assigned at the provincial police office and the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).

BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental Board Member Alain Gatuslao said on Jan. 10, 2017 that he is planning to conduct an investigation into the entry of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) into the country amid concerns raised by sugar industry stakeholders.

BACOLOD City – The Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) said it aims to develop 1,000 hectares (has.) of coconut plantation in Negros Occidental in 2017.

Rodrigo Gamarcha Jr., coconut development manager of PCA-Negros Occidental, said in a report that they are optimistic to hit the 2017 target since the province still has wide areas potential for coconut production.

BACOLOD City – Four more police officers in Negros Island Region were relieved from their posts effective Jan. 6, 2017 and were transferred to the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).

Chief Inspector Dianne Grace Aquitania-Catedral, Police Regional Office (PRO)-18 spokesperson, on Jan. 10, 2017 identified the officers as Chief Inspectors Argel Ancheta, Jerick Filosopo, and Jeffrey Attunaga and Police Officer 3 Mewyn Oñas.

BACOLOD City – The Bacolod City Council is against the proposed increase in taxes on fuel products.

Councilor Caesar Distrito, committee on laws, ordinances and good government chair, said their opposition is expressed in a resolution approved during their session on Jan. 6, 2017.
