BACOLOD City – The word war between Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia and Congressman Dr. Anthony Golez is not only heating up but already boiling hot with both resorting to calling each other names.

This, after the two city officials guested separately in a local TV forum segment.

Leonardia in the prior episode called Golez as Congressman Sampaw, referring to the recent project of asphalt overlay undertaken by the office of the solon on a concreted portion of Lacson St.

Leonardia claimed that Lacson street, being a well cemented stretch of road, does not need to be covered (sampawan) with asphalt.

Another project Leonardia cited is the tiling of cemented sidewalks in the city.

But Golez, in a succeeding episode, called Leonardia Mayor Sawsaw in reference to claims that that city chief executive is dipping his fingers into projects which is not under his jurisdiction.

Leonardia has recently written the Department of Public Works that instead of the asphalt overlay project along Lacson street, the funds should be used to repair other roads in the city.

Golez claimed that Leonardia was simply dipping his dirty fingers into the projects of other public officials for dubious reasons.

He said that among the projects Leonardia claimed as his own was his PhilHealth project and the visible flyover project in the highway near Brgy. Bata.

Ironically, they both ran under the same party in the last elections.

MY PARENTS gave me the name “Henry” after watching the movie “King Henry V,” Laurence Olivier’s film adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play.  But since the name was too short, so my mother suggested of adding the name, “Lito” (which means “little” in Spanish).  That’s why I am the only person in the world with the name “Henrylito” as it is a combination of English and Spanish names.

“THINK THAT every day is your last; the time to which you do not look forward will come as a welcome surprise”

This adage reminds us that everything we do everyday should be primarily for the sake of our family. This resembles our responsibility to live right and do good deeds before the sunset of our life. Read more...
