BACOLOD City – More housing opportunities for government workers and other low-income earners in the Third District through viable link-up programs of the local government units, the Home Development Mutual Fund or Pag-IBIG, and even the private sector through joint venture agreements, were discussed in a meeting organized by the office of Congressman Alfredo Benitez Thursday June 28 in this city.

Pag-IBIG representatives Victoria de la Pena, vice-president for the Visayas Group, Pag-IBIG Fund-Cebu; Ma. Lourdes Uy, department manager of its Bacolod Office; and Ritchie Dujon, senior mortgage loans specialist of its Bacolod Office, conducted an orientation on Group Housing Loan Programs.

The meeting was attended by Talisay Mayor Dr. Eric Saratan, EB Magalona Mayor David Lacson, Victorias Vice-Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca, city/municipal engineers, housing officers, and planning and development officers of the Third District LGUs.

Recently, Congressman Benitez met with Vice President Jejomar Binay who is also chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council to consult on the opportunities for partnership arrangement between LGUs and the HDMF and other housing agencies of the government to provide the chance for low-income groups to afford residential lots and build their own homes.

Ms. De la Pena assured the body of HDMF’s support and assistance, as well as continuous coordination with LGUs and the office of Congressman Benitez.

LAST Saturday I looked at the exhibit on the life of Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta at the west portico of the San Sebastian Cathedral. The Sisters of Charity, founded by Mother Teresa shared with us her life and her thoughts on her mission for the poor, the very poor of India and from there the poor of the world.
