BACOLOD City – Will it be former Bacolod representative Monico Puentebella against Bacolod Vice mayor Thaddeus Sayson in the mayoralty race here in 2013?

Puentebella has confirmed that he will run for mayor while Sayson declared that he will no longer give way as far as the mayoralty slot under the Nationalist People’s Coalition Grupo Progreso is concerned.

Sayson said he has given way before as requested by the party but “not this time”.

This as City Mayor Evelio Leonardia who is set to run for congressman also doused off reports of possible alliance with Puentebella.

Leonardia said he will still be with Sayson and will support the latter’s bid.

Both Sayson and Leonardia appeared to have severed their alliance with incumbent Rep. Anthony Golez who was adopted by the Grupo Progreso during the 2010 elections as their candidate for congressman then.

The trio beat their respective political opponents in 2010.

The vice mayoralty post is still a toss-up among the graduating councilors of Grupo Progreso, Al Victor Espino, Homer Bais and second-termer councilor Bobby Roxas.

Former vice mayor Renecito Novero, an NPC member, has also hinted that he may be joining the team of Leonardia and Sayson.

Other names that cropped up as possible Grupo Progreso vice mayoralty candidate are Councilors Em Ang and Dindo Ramos.

On the other hand, Puentebella is reportedly teaming up with businessman Vladimir Gonzalez as his vice mayor.

Gonzalez ran for mayor in 2010 but lost to Leonardia.

Golez, meanwhile, is reportedly mulling to team up with Puentebella and Gonzalez in his re-election bid if he leaves NPC’s Grupo Progreso.

THE RECENT shooting by the Philippine Coast guard of a lone Taiwanese fisherman illustrates the kind of governmental response that we Filipinos deserve when we ourselves fall victims to an internationally wrongful act.

Under international law, there is state responsibility for an internationally wrongful act where there is a breach of international law and when the breach is attributable to the state. Read more...
